Online Schools Well-Suited for a Human Resources Career
by Joe Cooper
Online Education Columnist

Right now there are over 1.2 million students enrolled in online education. Within the next two years, 1 out of every 10 students is predicted to be attending an online school. With the variety of online degrees and specializations available, it's no wonder students are turning to online schools for education in human resources.

The Growth of Online Degrees

Online education in human resources has grown rapidly over the past several years. Columbus Brooks, who lives in Pennsylvania, completed an online degree program in human resources before becoming a recruiter. He now plans to earn his master's degree from an online school.

After Online School -- HR Jobs

Mr. Brooks chose recruiting as his career starting point. Other human resources careers that graduates from online schools can pursue include the following:

  • Human Resources Analyst
  • Benefits Administrator
  • Payroll Coordinator
  • Training Coordinator
  • Communications Manager
  • Human Resources Manager

Career Outlook for Human Resources

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 2004, the average starting salary of graduates from human resources programs was $36,967. This is well above the national average, and that was two years ago!

An online degree can give you a strong starting point, and this means better career growth later.

The Credibility of Online Degrees

Online schools are gaining credibility. Online degrees like human resources have become so popular, the same institutions that accredit on-campus colleges are accrediting online schools now.

A professor at another online college told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that students actually work harder in online school than in physical classrooms. Regardless of which type of education is truly more challenging, online education is gaining credibility. For career in human resources, online education has become a viable option.
