Continuing Professional Development/Education (CPD)

The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has decided that all members of its affiliated professional bodies must attain a minimum level of Continuing Professional Development/Education (CPD) in each calendar year. The professional accounting bodies for example ACCA, CIMA, USCPA etc, enforce this regulation and ensure that their members collect a minimum number of 41 points each year in order to retain their professional status. These points are split into two categories:

Verifiable CPD - 21 from the attendance of courses and other verifiable activity.

Unverifiable CPD - 20 by updating their knowledge through specialist journals etc.

Qualified accountants must submit a declaration confirming their points total each year, if more than 41 points are collected, the additional verifiable points can be carried into the following year. The professional bodies, including ACCA, expect the verifiable points to have been gained in different topic areas each year. If a member continually submits identical declarations each year, their points will not be awarded.
